Ezines and newsletters-How to get Begin

by Rebecca White

So you are thinking about starting an ezine or maybe contemplating a mail newsletter.

How do you get started?

First ask yourself this, will doing an ezine (an electric newsletter) or a print newsletter.  This all depends on your reach of customers or clients.

I recommend when you first start out to do an ezine as they cost less and are easier to maintain once you get the hang of it.

I recommend Bravenet for all your mailing services as they offer so many free tools and resources for webmasters its really hard not to at least try out.

I use Bravenet to send my newsletter for Advantage Marketing, I announce that it is online and what is in the newsletter and send the URL to my subscribers.

For about a year I did my newsletter through the service but really like being able to have all past newsletters archived on site.

When you first start out you need to know what your subjects are going to be, are you going to be writing the articles, recipes, tips etc (again this all depends on what your business is).

Once you establish how you are going to be doing your ezine and you have chose a service to help you with opt in subscribers you can start thinking of announcing your newsletter to the world!

One important aspect of having a place like Bravenet for your newsletter is that in this day and age you need to be sure your subscribers have to confirm they want to be on your list so you cannot be charged with spam.  A service like Bravenet has a double opt in confirmation link that they have to click on to get into your newsletter subscriber list.

Now that you have set up your account with whoever you choose and you know how or what you are going to put into your newsletter it is important to announce it to the world!

There are several places you can place your ezine ad for free just do a google search for ezine article submitters.

You can also do a search on the internet but many of them will require a small fee or you may have to do a lot of research to find out the best ones to post your ezine too.

Another way to post your ezine announcements to the world is to your current clients/customers or to networking groups that you belong to.

Offer freebies to your subscribers.  For Advantage Marketing subscribers I offer free marketing e-books and other freebies as well as a free newsletter ad in the week that they sign up.

Once in awhile offer something at a discount or a freebie for your subscribers so they are sure to read your ezine.  I do this once in awhile and the first person to send me the answer to a question or email me that they read all the newsletter (hint: put the special or freebie at the end of the newsletter) will “win” the freebie or discount.  Or offer a special discount to all subscribers J

Decide if you are going to do your newsletter once a week, bi-weekly or once a month.
