My name is Eleisia Whitney and I own a Watkins home business. My family and I live in northern California. I grew up on a farm and enjoy nature and the out-of-doors. My hobbies are gardening, bird watching, cooking, mosaic arts, and reading.

I wanted a business with quality products that I could believe in and use to improve the life of my family. I realized Watkins was the company I’d been looking for. I’ve been with Watkins for 3 ½ years and have achieved the Manager level. 

Working from home allows me to set my own schedule and work the hours I choose. I don’t set aside a specific time each day for myself but I go out to lunch with my husband or friends, enjoy the antics of the squirrels and birds at my backyard feeders, and read or garden soaking up the fresh air.

The most challenging thing about working from home and the best thing about working from home are that I am my own boss. I’m the CEO of my company! I plan the use of my time. If I don’t share catalogs, advertise, or tell people about my products or business opportunity then my business doesn’t grow. I use Watkins products every day and know how their quality and economy improve my life. I know using our products will improve the life of you and your family. The hardest thing about working from home is time management. It’s easy to spend too much time sitting at your computer.

My advice to someone who is thinking about working from home is

1. Choose a company with products that you believe in and use yourself. Your enthusiasm won’t show if you don’t enjoy using the products you sell.
2. Start with a basic business plan with specific goals. Write down your business plan, goals, and the “why” for your business.
3. Budget your time and money. Once your business is up and running, set aside a certain percentage each month to build your business. Never spend money on advertising that you can’t afford to lose if your response is low.
4. Get a notebook and keep accurate records of your income and expenses. A home business gives you tax benefits not available to other business owners. Always keep a written record of your business income and expenses; computer problems can destroy your records.
5. Involve your family. They will be more supportive of the time you spend on your business if they know what you are doing or are actively involved.
6. Tell everyone you know and don’t know about your products and home business. Hours of planning and organizing won’t do you any good if you don’t consistently tell people about your business. Talk to five or more people a day.
